The weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) will not hold today. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said the meeting would not hold because the Eid-el-Kabir holiday deprived the ministers adequate time to prepare the documents for the meeting.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, a statement issued in Kano on Tuesday quoted the Minister as having said that the two-day public holidays (Friday and Monday) declared for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations left little or no time to prepare for the weekly meeting. Last week when the meeting held, the Federal Government approved the Mambilla hydro project that will be handled by a consortium of Chinese companies at a cost of $5.79 billion.
Before last week?s meeting, the one for the penultimate Wednesday did not hold and no reason was offered by presidency officials. This makes it the second time FEC meeting would not hold since Buhari returned on August 19, 2017, after a 103-day medical vacation in London.
